Causes We Support

Momentum is proud to support many causes that are important to us and the hard working Momos that help make our company special, for we are nothing without our colleague’s passion and dedication. Giving back is an important part of our culture which is just one of the reasons why we encourage our team to donate their time to worthwhile causes. Additionally, we are very proud to provide up to two scholarships per event for undergraduate or graduate students interested in attending our conferences in order to gain “real world” learning and networking opportunities as part of our Momentum Scholarships program.

While the list below does not represent the sum total of all the causes we support, we do hope one day that this page becomes filled with logos representing organizations that work tirelessly to make our communities a better place to live.

We encourage you to click on their links to learn more about what they do and why we support them.

IAVA

IAVA was founded in 2004 by Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff and fellow veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. After returning home from their tours, these veterans came together after quickly becoming concerned with the way the war in Iraq was being portrayed in the media and the overall plight of newly returned veterans. There were many policy experts and talking heads on TV, but very few people who had actually served on the ground in Iraq or Afghanistan. There was no one talking about what wounded veterans needed and the issues they faced. The creation of IAVA allowed thousands of veterans to join the national dialogue, and to explain what was really happening on the ground overseas and back home in the United States.

Today, IAVA is the leading post-9/11 veteran empowerment organization (VEO) with the most diverse and rapidly growing membership in America. Celebrating its 10th year anniversary, IAVA has repeatedly received the highest rating – four-stars – from Charity Navigator, America’s largest charity evaluator.

UNDERWEARNESS

UNDERWEARNESS is 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization providing new underwear to children in need. One night at dinner my brother-in-law told a story that grabbed my heart and would not let go. This is what he told me: “You thought getting toys with only three wheels was bad, we were so poor that we would be excited to find barely used underwear in the bags of clothes donated by the church.”

“Barely used, you did not get new underwear?” I asked. I was shocked to hear that something as basic as new underwear was not provided in a town much like mine, to kids much like me. The only difference was that they were in circumstances that made them less fortunate. I left that evening feeling sad to know that children grew up with used underwear or no underwear at all.

I carried the vision of these children with me to work the next morning and shared the story with my co-workers. Everyone’s heartstrings were tugged at the same time, and before we knew it we were formulating a plan to make a difference in children’s lives, one pair of underwear at a time! We may not be saving the world, but we can provide children the basic human kindness of being able to open up a new package of underwear that is theirs, and theirs alone. In an astonishingly short period of time, UNDERWEARNESS, Inc. was born.

We have come a long way from that first brainstorming session. We have a Mission, a Strategy, a Board of Directors, a grass roots marketing model, and partners stepping forward to help us make this dream a reality. Each time we tell our story we hear even more stories of all the children and organizations that we can serve. Many hearts have been captured by the simple act of providing new underwear to children. Our fun and creative name adds a light-hearted touch to our efforts so that no child will ever suffer the humiliation of pulling a pair of used underwear out of a bag of donated clothes.

March of Dimes

We help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. If something goes wrong, we offer information and comfort to families. We research the problems that threaten our babies and work on preventing them. In local communities across the country, we’re helping moms take charge of their health, and supporting families when something goes wrong. The March of Dimes also acts globally: sharing best practices in perinatal health and helping improve birth outcomes where the needs are the most urgent.

The Enough Project

The Enough Project fights to end genocide and crimes against humanity, focused on areas where some of the world’s worst atrocities occur. We get the facts on the ground, use rigorous analysis to determine the most sustainable solutions, influence political leaders to adopt our proposals, and mobilize the American public to demand change. Enough was conceived in 2006 by a small group of concerned policymakers and activists who wanted to transform their frustration about inaction into pragmatic solutions and hope. Co-founded by Africa experts Gayle Smith and John Prendergast, Enough launched in early 2007 as a project of the Center for American Progress. Enough is based in Washington, DC, and works with concerned citizens, advocates, and policy makers to prevent, mitigate, and resolve crises of genocide and crimes against humanity.

Our strategy is to energize diverse communities – including students, religious groups, activists, business leaders, celebrities, and diaspora networks – to ensure that their voices are heard on some of the most pressing foreign policy and moral challenges facing the world today.

Enough conducts intensive field research in countries plagued by genocide and crimes against humanity, develops practical policies to address these crises, and shares sensible tools to help empower citizens and groups working for change. Enough works with concerned citizens, advocates, and policy makers to prevent, mitigate, and resolve these crises.

Enough’s strategy papers and briefings provide sharp field analysis and targeted policy recommendations. Enough is also working to develop the policies, tools, and investments that can best be applied to prevent crimes against humanity and genocide now and in the future.
